Auburndale prepares for youth tourneys

Auburndale youth basketball has several tournament on the slate in the coming months.

This weekend features boys and girls USSSA state qualifying tournaments. Auburndale HOOPfest for boys and girls runs Friday through Sunday. Eligible participants are in third through 11th grades.

Individual medals and team awards will be given out as well as an award for an all-tournament team, a hustle award and a Most Valuable Player award.

The deadline to register was Tuesday, but tournament Director Joe Key said in an e-mail that teams can still enter.

Registration must be completed at www.usssa.com.

The entry fee is $300 and there is a guarantee of three games.

The tournament will start with a pool play and the top teams will advance to a single elimination tournament.

Another USSSA event, Central Florida Summer HOOPfest will be June 20-22 and is a national qualifying tournament or an invitational for participants of the same age.

The last of the events will be We Got Game on July 12-15 and is a USSSA exposure events for boys and girls.

The high schools age divisions will feature a team award for champions, while the eighth grade and below divisions will have individual medals and team awards for the champions and runners-up.

The Auburndale Youth Basketball League wrapped up its regular season with two teams boasting undefeated records. The final standings for the league are as follows:

Pee Wee division

Junior Boys Division:

    1. Auburndale Rotary Club (7-5)

    2. Publix Supermarkets (7-5)

    3. M & M Landscaping (4-8)

Senior Boys Division:

    1. Pro Scapes (8-1)

    2. Larry Walker State Farm (6-3)

    3. T-Mac (4-5)

    4. Mobility Specialists (0-9)

Girls Division:

    1. Bright House Seminoles (5-1)

    2. Bright House Gators (1-5)
